Flight

Design & Wind

Is it a giant frog, a fire breathing dragon, a butterfly? No, it is a specialty kite.  Students at West Prairie North Elementary were able to study how aerodynamics and wind speed impact kites.  On Friday, May 4 students in grades kindergarten thru fourth were given the opportunity to try different apparatuses that were affected by wind.  Students were able to rotate between parachutes, pole kites, angel wings, and scoop ball.

How do weight, height, air speed, and design impact flight?  After an afternoon of exploration your child can share what they learned and how they explored each apparatus.  The different resources and basic instruction were shared by Heather McMeekan.  A family outing to Macomb Kite Festival in September would allow the family to explore a more in depth study of the world of kiting.
