Second grade played sight word BINGO today! We had multiple winners!

Last week Mrs. Ebey's class had a lunch bunch, full of kiddos, that saved their classroom money in order to purchase a 'Lunch with Teacher' pass! We had a blast!

Our reading curriculum is called ARC, American Reading Company. Within this framework our students read independently for at least 30 minutes a day. Then, they also are supposed to be reading at home each night. We log these "steps" of reading into a program along with many of their reading accomplishments. Cyclones are READERS!

Here is our January Newsletter. It includes some resources for parents to use at home to help students with both our reading and math programs.

Mrs. Shipman would like to extend a HUGE thank you to Diann Sugden from the U of I Extension Office. Diann prepared a fun event for our preschoolers and their families called Eat, Play, Grow. The children learned about healthy foods and moving their bodies with a fun craft, some physical activity and a variety of healthy snacks, all the while focusing on using their 5 senses. We all had such a fun time and are excited to have Diann join us again at WPNE soon!

Our students returned to school this week and practiced all the ways we are respectful, responsible and safe at school. Each school environment has different expectations. We reviewed them all with staff and we are all set to have a safe, respectful and responsible New Year and 2nd Semester!

We came back from break to enjoy Mrs. Thompson's birthday! Thank you Mrs. Thompson for all you do for West Prairie North Elementary. We all hope you had a great trip around the sun with us and will have many more!

Ms. Eidson had a birthday over the winter break! We hope you enjoyed it. Happy Birthday Ms. Eidson!

Yesterday 4th grade wrote "How to Make a PB & J" instructions. Both Ms. Davison and Mrs. Wilson followed the instructions they gave. This helped to create an engaging lesson about details and how important it is to revise your first draft until you get exactly what you want your writing to convey. This is our introduction to the Mystery Unit.

Mr. Eden had a birthday over winter break! Happy belated Mr. Eden.

Happy Birthday! We appreciate you!

Our 2nd grade students had a review around the room and with Freckle on the computer!

Our 3rd graders started the semester with a compare and contrast activity with traditional tales.

It was a great start to our 2nd semester of PE today! Miss Spriet started a basketball unit!

We are so excited to welcome back our students tomorrow! Today teachers presented and learned together at the McDonough County Connect Event. Teachers from West Prairie, Bushnell and Macomb were together to prepare for 2nd semester! Check out these teachers learning just like our students do. Learning never ends! Please make sure your student gets a good night's rest and is ready to get to school on time tomorrow!, Tuesday, January 7th.
